As the Director of International Programs at Ciheb Global, University of Maryland, and a Senior Technical Advisor for Population HIV Impact Assessment services, Dr. Agbakwuru's journey is a testament to the power of dedication and purpose.

Chinedu’s story begins in Benin City, Nigeria, where the seeds of his future career were planted amidst the academic backdrop of his upbringing. Raised on a university campus by his parents, both educators, he was immersed in a world of learning and service from a young age. Inspired by the altruism of his parents and fueled by a desire to make a meaningful impact, Dr. Agbakwuru's path naturally led him to medicine. Witnessing the dedication of his father, a pharmacist and lecturer, and his mother, a teacher, instilled in him a deep-rooted commitment to helping others on a grand scale.

Dr. Agbakwuru's career trajectory took shape through his experiences in Nigeria's NGO sector, where he tackled prevalent diseases such as malaria, HIV, and AIDS and maternal and child health initiatives. His expertise in conducting surveys caught the attention of the University of Maryland's Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation (MGIC), leading to pivotal roles in national-level initiatives like Nigeria's HIV/ AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS). This journey ultimately brought him to Ciheb Global in Baltimore.

At Ciheb Global, Chinedu found not just a job, but a platform to express his creativity and problem-solving skills. Driven by the pursuit of solutions, he leads initiatives that have far-reaching global effects. Each day, he navigates the complexities of healthcare with unwavering resolve, finding fulfillment in overcoming challenges and making a tangible difference in the lives of others.

Dr. Agbakwuru's greatest accomplishments lie in his contributions to strengthening health systems in low- and middle-income countries. From Nigeria to Botswana, Zambia, and now Kenya, his leadership has been instrumental in delivering national-level surveys that pave the way for transformative change.

Looking ahead, Chinedu envisions a future where he continues to lead the charge in reengineering health systems across Africa for greater sustainability and resilience. Whether through healthcare leadership or even one day serving as the President of Nigeria, his ambitions know no bounds.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Agbakwuru finds joy in the simple pleasures of life. From reading to playing basketball and volleyball, his pursuits outside of work keep him grounded and rejuvenated. Yet, it is his role as a father, husband, and spiritual seeker that truly defines his greatest joys.

Grateful for the support of mentors like Dr. Man Charurat and Dr. Kristen Stafford, Dr. Agbakwuru acknowledges the importance of collaboration and camaraderie in his journey. His appreciation extends to the larger family of the University of Maryland, whose collective efforts make the work being done at Ciheb Global nothing short of breathtaking.

In Dr. Chinedu Agbakwuru, Ciheb Global has not just an employee, but a visionary whose unwavering dedication and passion continue to inspire all those around him. As he charts the course for a brighter, healthier future, his legacy of impact will undoubtedly endure for generations to come.
