The Fifth Botswana AIDS Impact Survey (BAIS V) Report 2021 is a nationally representative household-based survey 
conducted between March and August 2021. Its main aim was to provide information on national and district-level progress towards achieving key HIV targets. It was also geared towards measuring the status of Botswana's HIV response. The survey had household responses from 87.7% of 11,478 eligible households, as well as 74.1% of 19,914 eligible adults.
The survey report was officially launched on August 17th. It established that Botswana has achieved the UNAIDS' 95-95-95 goals, which is highly commendable. "That Botswana has achieved (the UNAIDS) target before 2030 is to be celebrated. We now have a duty to ensure there are no new infections among the youth," remarked Hon. Slumber Tsogwane, Vice President of Botswana.
The BAIS V survey carried out in conjunction with numerous partners provided critical data on the primary outcomes of HIV incidence and viral load suppression among adults at national levels. "The progress made in HIV in Botswana and surpassing the 95-95-95 targets are a testimony to strong leadership informed by science and partnerships," said Howard van Vranken, US Ambassador to Botswana. This data established during the survey will inform the planning and execution of interventions.
The report launch had a host of distinguished guests in attendance. Along with Hon. Gotswane and Howard van Vranken were Hon. Dr. Edwin Dikoloti, Botswana Minister for Health, and Dr. Lilian Okui, Ciheb Botswana Country Representative, also present.

Preliminary results of national HIV survey (BAIS V) demonstrate Botswana’s remarkable progress achieving HIV epidemic control
Preliminary results from the fifth Botswana HIV/AIDS Impact Survey (BAIS V), announced today by the President, His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi demonstrate that for the first time at a national level among adults aged 15-64, Botswana has exceeded the 2020 UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets which call for 90 percent of all people living with HIV (PLHIV) to be aware of their status, 90 percent of those aware of their status to be on antiretroviral treatment (ART), and 90 percent of those on ART to achieve viral load suppression.

HIV/AIDS Survey in Botswana Enters New Phase
The Fifth Botswana HIV/AIDS Impact Survey (BAIS V) has now been in the field for nearly two months and has completed the first wave of implementation. Approximately 3,800 households have been surveyed across the project’s three regions (see map below). This represents approximately one-third of the 13,564 households that will be surveyed nationwide before the project concludes this summer.
