About the MKM Fellowship
This unique opportunity offers hands on clinical and field experience in tropical infectious diseases and public health program implementation. The fellowship is based full-time in Lusaka Zambia, with research opportunities in other Ciheb-supported countries. Over the course of two years, the fellow will gain significant clinical expertise in treatment of tropical infectious diseases and HIV in resource-limited settings; experience in delivering clinical and didactic education of medical trainees; substantial experience in international public health work, including grant design, field work, evaluations, and reports; additional training in implementation and dissemination science; and experience in global health research, with at least three manuscripts submitted for publication. The position is supervised by three full-time UMB faculty based full-time in Zambia. Upon completion of fellowship, the fellow will be a highly competitive applicant for a global health professional position, such as a Senior Medical Technical Advisor or CDC Program Officer overseas or the Global Health Lead for a US-based clinical or research program. Ciheb offers a competitive fellowship salary, along with a generous international benefits package. Qualifications include U.S. board-certified/eligible infectious disease physicians; experienced HIV doctors will also be considered. Substantial prior experience working in health overseas, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, is highly valued. Prior education or training in public health such as MPH is also highly desired.
UMB has been supporting HIV medical/technical public health initiatives in Zambia since 2004, and supporting collaborative global health education and infectious disease training at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka since 2008. The MKM Global Health fellowship is unique in that it offers experience in clinical infectious disease, infectious disease research, global health education, and public health program management, while also offering additional formal training in implementation and dissemination science.
